Over the last ten years, the Graubünden community of Flims has implemented an extremely broad-based water utilisation project under the Romansh name of “Sinfonia d’aua”.

The span of the project ranges from groundwater and drinking water projects, snowmaking and hydro power plants through to the hydrological balance of the local lakes. This is all embedded in an overall blueprint that combines maximum environmental friendliness and economic efficiency. As a partner for utilising hydro power, the people of Graubünden relied on the skills and expertise of the South Tyrolean turbine construction company Troyer AG, which delivered no fewer than six high-pressure turbines. They enable some 20 GWH to be generated every year in an environmentally friendly way. In total, around 40 million francs were invested in the “technical cultural project”. It is now regarded throughout Switzerland as a shining example of a pioneering way to implement a vision of sustainability.
